Chevron Inspiration

Time for a little inspiration this Monday in the form of chevron. Chevron simply means a line or strip in the form of a “v” or an inverted “v” and I’m sure you’ve seen it just about everywhere by now. From linens, to fabrics to papers, the simple pattern is a beautiful addition to tables, dresses and invitations.

Happy May Day!

May 1st is a traditional spring holiday celebrated in many cultures, May Day. The earliest May Day celebrations appeared in pre-Christian times, with the festival of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers. A common May Day practice is leaving flowers on your neighbor’s doors as a Springtime greeting. A simple way to leave flowers is to place them in a paper cone or mason jar and tie it to the door knob. You can find a tutorial on how to make a paper cone here.

This morning like most mornings, we found ourselves in the Flower District. For those of you who have never been, it’s on 28th street between 6th and 7th avenue and is made up of a a bunch of supply stores, vase stores, and wholesalers. You can walk down the street and see flowers everywhere you look, it’s kind of awesome. We were out buying flowers and supplies for an Ovarian Cancer Research Fund auction event tonight at City Bakery but I wanted to share with you some of the stuff we saw.

An Evening of Laughter

Looking for a fun night out celebrating a great cause? Our exclusive charity partner, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, is hold their 12th Annual Evening of Laughter in Tribute to Madeline Kahn at Carolines on May 6th.

Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is the largest charity in the United States funding ovarian cancer research. Our mission is to fund scientific research that leads to more effective identification, treatment, and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.

Each year there will be approximately 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer in the United States, and about 15,500 women will die of the disease. Currently there is no effective means of early detection. Since 1998, OCRF has given over $50 million for ovarian cancer research. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, OCRF-sponsored researchers are developing innovative strategies for early detection; exploring the genetics that increase risk for ovarian cancer; understanding the underlying molecular biology of the disease; identifying new and better targets for treatment; and deciphering how and why ovarian cancer spreads, and how to stop it.

So Join OCRF for an evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a live auction, and stand-up performances from some of the best talent in the industry. This year’s lineup features Jim Gaffigan, Nikki Glaser, Phil Hanley, Robert Klein, Lisa Lampanelli, Kevin Meaney, and more. New York Magazine Weddings Event

Last Thursday night we had the pleasure of being a vendor at the New York Magazine Weddings Show.

On March 28, 2013, more than 1000 of New York’s most sophisticated engaged couples and professional wedding planners gathered for the annual New York Weddings Event. Guests strolled the aisles sipping cocktails as New York introduced them to everyone they needed to know to plan the perfect wedding. Over 130 companies participated, including floral designers, dress designers, stationers, photographers, DJs and many more.

We created a pop up flower shop and let guests create their own hand tied bouquets or grab a pre-made one. We had a blast and got to meet great people and other amazing vendors! Well we are going to waste no time over here and start talking about Spring! I think everyone is ready for it and last week it officially arrived. Although even though Spring is here, the weather does not seem to have gotten the memo. Well anyway, since it’s finally here we wanted to give you a list of our favorite seasonal flowers that can be found in Spring.

Spring Colors

Pantone has released their Spring 2013 Color Report and all of the bright colors like Sunflower, Vibrant Orange, Poppy Red, and the color of the year, Emerald, have got us very excited for the upcoming season.

I love all the punchy, whimsical colors and can’t wait to see them incorporated in upcoming events. Some of my favorite pairings are nectarine and grayed jay, Tender Shoots and Emerald, and Monaco Blue and Poppy Red.

 

And the award goes to…

My favorite award show, as I’m sure is everyone else’s, is the Oscars. There is just so much glitz and glamour that it’s impossible to not get caught up in it. From the pre-show seeing all of the gorgeous dresses, to the award show where we see what movies prove to be the best, to the after parties where the stars let loose and seem just a little more real, I love it all. It’s also the perfect night to host a party and here at B Floral that’s what we’re about. We’ve compiled some great ideas from all around the Internet and infused a few of our own ideas so you can host your own award worthy party this Sunday.

Flowers for Everyone

When we had our anniversary party a few weeks back, we had a quite a bit of flowers leftover. We definitely didn’t want those flowers to go to waste so we donated some to charity and Helah from JPO Concepts had the wonderful idea of handing out the rest to strangers on the street who happened to be walking by. So a couple members of the JPO team hit the streets for us, loaded with tons of flowers, and set to work handing them out. The response was amazing and we couldn’t have been more thrilled to help make unexpecting passer-bys day a little brighter!
