7 Outdoor Summer entertaining Tips!
With summer in full swing, now is the perfect time to throw an outdoor party! From intimate backyard brunches to big evening cocktail parties, we've rounded up some tips to ensure your party goes off without a hitch!
1. Make your guests comfortable
Not enough patio furniture to accommodate all your guests? Use indoor furniture! It doesn't have to be fancy - assorted dining chairs, bar stools, decorative cushions, or even blankets spread across the lawn are great seating options for your guests!
2. Make your backyard twinkle
For evening get-togethers, party lights or festive lanterns serve a practical purpose and add a decorative flair. String lights from trees using dark-colored extension cords that will blend in with the surrounding foliage.
No trees? No problem! Arrange groups of candles on tables and windowsills or place cute tiki torches around your yard to offer an extra bit of light. If it's a windy day, opt for battery powered candles instead.
3. Diffuse the bar crowds
Rather than designating a single bar area, set up a few stations around your yard. Fill large metal ice buckets with an assortment of drinks, then use colorful ribbons to tie openers onto bucket handles.
4. Help your guests deal with the elements
Put out baskets with handheld fans, bug repellent, and sunscreen to keep your guests cool, bug bite-free, and safe from the summer sun's rays. If it's a particularly hot day, secure rolled washcloths with a ribbon and arrange them in an ice bucket so your guests can help themselves to homemade cold compresses.
5. Banish the bugs
Make sure to mow your lawn and get rid of any standing water before your party - bugs love tall grass and damp, muggy spaces. Citronella candles are also a good bet for keeping bugs away. If it's too hot for candles, set up fans around your dining area to cut down on mosquitoes - they have trouble flying in a breeze.
6. Make your playlist music to your guests' ears
Make a playlist ahead of time so your guests can enjoy it while they mingle. If possible, set up multiple speakers around the yard to keep the volume consistent. If you only have one speaker, mount it above ear level so your mix isn't blaring in guests' ears!
7. Don't underestimate the power of flowers
No party is complete without fresh flowers! Elaborate floral centerpieces and statement arrangements are always big hits, but you'd be surprised at how much the tiny details will resonate with your guests. We especially love these decorative sprigs of lavender tucked into napkins.
