6 Modern Holiday Tablescapes

The holidays are just around the corner - so it's about that time to dust off the holiday china, break out the linens, and dress your table to impress your guests. This time of year we welcome guests into our home to eat, drink and be merry! But, having guests can sometimes be overwhelming when you feel that your home is just not up to snuff. Even if you’re not a design expert, you can still create an impressive holiday tablescape. If you’re looking for a simple way to decorate your home and your tablescape to wow your guests, we suggest going the modern route. A traditional table setting with a modern twist of fun colors or an unconventional tablescape is a surefire way to inspire your company and leave a lasting impression. We rounded up some of our favorite modern tablescape design suggestions that are easy to create and fun to execute.

Berry + Rosemary Accents

Adding seasonal elements to your tablescape provides a festive aesthetic. Consider berries to fill the bottom portion of a vase and place a candle and flower petals (or flower heads) on top. Rosemary stems have a wonderful, holiday scent and can be used as a setting accent over a napkin or around placed arrangements. Utilizing natural elements in your décor is an easy way to create a festive, seasonal atmosphere.

Jewel Tones

Mixing jewel-toned glassware is an unconventional but super chic way to add excitement to your table. Pair your colorful glassware with silver and metallic vases and napkins to really allow them to shine. If you are looking for florals to complement your place settings, remember you can always paint certain floral elements like twigs and pinecones to easily match the rest of your décor. Using pops of unexpected color is a simple and fun way to elevate your tablescape without much effort.

Wine + Basalt Stones

There's a certain richness in this tablescape that pulls from shades of wine. We love incorporating wine colors into sophisticated holiday décor. Darker basalt stones are a great complementary element you can utilize when using florals in rich burgundy and maroon. Accent your table with square bud vases, filled halfway with small basalt stones. To add a jolt of energy to the table, place a bright-colored bloom – like an orchid – on top of the stones. The smooth basalt stones give the table dimension by adding diverse and assorted texture.

Greenery + Soft Glow

Give your tablescape a whimsical, rustic feel with pine and twine. Scattering (unscented) candles along your table to create a natural and earthy table runner with a soft glow. Using candles in varying heights is a great way to add layers and dimensions to your tablescape. If the rest of your tablescape is fairly neutral, you can go further with the detailing and mix your metals. For example, mix silver brushed silverware with gold-accent plates. This can create a diverse industrial look which complements a natural table setting quite nicely.
