B Floral for Color Me Courtney

Holiday cookies are a favorite among the staff here at B Floral. Courtney Quinn, the lovely blogger and color connoisseur behind Color Me Courtney, planned a unique way to celebrate the holidays by decorating cookies with friends and fellow bloggers! We love Courtney for so many reasons. For starters, she lives up to her name by focusing her brand and blog aesthetic around… you guessed it… color! Courtney lives life large and incorporates a ton of color into her life, making her blog and Instagram profile incredibly appealing to the eye!

Once we heard about Courtney’s ‘Color Me Cookie's’ party, we wanted to get involved and provide flowers for the event. Our designers were thrilled to be working with Courtney - who loves color and bold design. Chatting with Courtney provided our designers with the insight they needed to know what would work for the event. Because it was a small gathering in a New York City apartment, our designers opted for smaller more compact arrangements that could be placed throughout the living room without interfering with the set-up needed to make the cookies. And since the party was focused on creating traditional holiday cookies - with the colors to match - our designers created stunning arrangements featuring white peonies, red garden roses, holly berries, and pinecones. These floral choices helped to create a festive, holiday feel.

After the party, Courtney wrote a blog post discussing the steps that she took to put the event together.  She highlighted certain products and companies such as the Martha Stewart Collection at Macy’s.  Most importantly (to us!), she discussed B Floral! Courtney added amazing pictures that featured our arrangements and we would like to share a few. For more information about Courtney’s Color Me Cookies Party click here.

We always like to note that holiday décor can certainly range beyond your typical ‘red, white, and green’ color palette. While our designers chose to work with the traditional Christmas color palette for Courtney’s “Color Me Cookies “ event, there are many ways you can think outside of the box when decorating for a holiday party.

How to create a holiday aesthetic without using traditional colors

1. Winter Whites

‘Winter white’ can mean a different thing for every person. Some people may think of cozy wool sweaters and mitten while others think of sleek white monochromatic Christmas trees. We love suggesting the use of ‘white’ during wintertime because of how versatile white can be. Not only does white convey a sleek, clean aesthetic but it also can suggest a snow-like aesthetic for those looking for a much appreciated ‘White Christmas.’

2. Foliage over Flowers

A simple way to create a holiday aesthetic for your event is to incorporate foliage that is currently in season. Foliage can include anything from trees, plants or shrubs. Collecting foilage for your table décor can be as easy as walking outside and foraging! Pick up leaves, pinecones, nuts or berries from your yard or street to include in a centerpiece. Using a shallow bowl, you can display all of these items in a way that will draw attention to your table. Only you have to know that these items came from right outside!

3. Party Favors as Décor

One way to achieve a full and abundant tablescape is to incorporate your guests’ party favors as the décor. Whether you are handling out small wrapped gift boxes or bags of candy, consider using these gifts as part of your décor. Place tagged gift boxes throughout the tablescape at differing heights using cake stands and other display pieces. At the end of your meal, invite your guests to find their presents! This is a fun way to add an interactive element to your event.

Whether you utilize traditional holiday colors as we did for Courtney’s "Color Me Cookies’ party, or opt for a more natural aesthetic with winter whites or organic foliage, know that your holiday décor can be as bold or as subtle as you like.
