Employee Spotlight: Kacey Ziegler

B Floral’s dynamic team and corporate business approach allow it to stand out from typical event design firms in New York City. Our Event Design Department is comprised of Event Design Managers, Logistics Supervisors, and Logistics Assistants - all who contribute to the vision and success of each event!

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Senior Event Design Manager, Kacey Ziegler

Employee Spotlight Kacey Ziegler

Kacey Ziegler is a Senior Event Design Manager at B Floral. She is occupied by dreaming up new and unique installations for clients and searching for the perfect method to communicate each vision. Outside of the office, she fuels her creative fire though ceramics, observational sketching, painting, and any other crafty material she can get her hands on!

What is a typical day like for you at B Floral?

A typical day for me includes answering client emails, gathering important information on calls, and collaborating with our design team to create compelling proposals. More recently a chunk of the day has also gone to graphic design and 3D rendering of installations to really show our creative intentions before we arrive on site.

What do you like most about working at B Floral?

What I will always treasure about B Floral is what an incredible example we are of an organization operated and run by (badass) women. Every department is something special because of all of the women who have shaped what we do and how we do it. It’s an absolute pleasure to be surrounded by dedicated and professional colleagues at every level.

What is the most difficult part of your job?

The most difficult part of my job would have to be grappling with at least 100 event names, dates, client names, end-client names, and set up times all swirling around at once. Thank goodness we have a logistics team to keep me straight!

Did you always want to work in Events? How did your career lead you to B Floral?

I fell into events after jumping into a floral career post-art school graduation. I have worked in floral companies in various capacities ranging from on-site arrangement and plant maintenance all the way through studio managing, photography, floral designing, and now event design.

What has been your favorite event (or events) that you’ve worked on and why?

One of my favorite events was with Dr. Organic & LaForce. It was a true collaboration with Maggie (one of our fantastic designers), our client, and the brand. They gave us the space and trust to meet their goals and make a splash and it came out better than we imagined. I was also able to assist with the install on the event day, and I LOVE getting my hands dirty so it was a win all around!

Who do you look to for advice when it’s needed?

I look to the B Floral-all slack channel whenever advice is needed– where to buy tights at 8pm before a party? Check. Great dentist recommendation after eating all the candy in the office? Check. Tips for how your horoscope should reflect in your email signature? Double-check.

If you had to give a piece of advice to 13 year old you, what would it be?

Invest in bitcoin! But for real, I would tell 13 year old Kacey to quit band already, girl – you can’t read music!

When you are not at work, what do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time you will find me sketching strangers on my commute, creating pottery in my local studio, painting my plants, or learning a new physical skill! When I’m done manically making things, you’ll find me cuddled up with my little black cat on the couch -usually thinking about how much I want to draw her if only she would stay still for 5 seconds!

What is your proudest moment at B Floral?

My proudest moment would have to be executing what was at that time our largest event in both scale and budget – a complete venue transformation with ONE WEEK NOTICE! It was a colossal effort of teamwork, patience, and ingenuity to make it happen.

What has surprised you about working in the events industry?

I’ve never been much of an event-goer to tell the truth, so being exposed to the sheer scale and complexity of the New York event world was really surprising to me at first. It’s amazing the amount of work and care from so many angles that goes into pulling off these incredible but ephemeral experiences.

If you were a flower, what would you be?

I would be a purple oxalis clover! They change their shape every day and really go with the flow of the light. They are most open during the day and shut their leaves at night to conserve energy – I can certainly relate to that. They also pack a surprising punch as an edible plant and taste like a tangy grape, yum!
